The project of renovating the architectural heritage of Oton Jugovec on the edge of Zasip transformed a former holiday house into a modern residential home with a unique view of Bled Castle and the Julian Alps. Through the renovation and the addition of space, which is dug into the ground level, we preserved the original form of the existing house while meeting the needs for more square footage and functionality that suits an active lifestyle. The new interventions respect the fundamental ideas and inventions of Jugovec’s project, so special attention was given to connecting the interior with the exterior, achieved with skylights and a panoramic window that provide broader views and an abundance of light. The underground longitudinal volume, which includes an open living space, wellness area, and garage, is designed in a way that does not disrupt the basic architectural composition, which remains dominant in the space. By using materials such as concrete, clinker brick, and spruce formwork, we preserved the authenticity of Jugovec’s creations, while also maintaining the character of the original house through the renovation of inventive details, such as the interior stairs and wooden shutters. The outdoor layout, with green terraces and interconnected pathways, allows for a fluid transition between the interior and exterior spaces and offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the intersection of nature and architecture
