Asia in the Heart of Ljubljana: The Life of the Skušek Collection
The exhibition Asia in the Heart of Ljubljana: The Story of the Skušek Collection at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum is thoughtfully designed as a spatial and thematic narrative, merging elements of historical reconstruction with contemporary interpretation. A key architectural feature of the exhibition is the reconstructed living room of the Skušek family, offering an immersive spatial experience of living surrounded by a rich collection of East Asian artifacts. The space effectively integrates functional design with a curated aesthetic that reflects the cultural diversity of the collection and its historical context.
Special attention is given to the presentation of unique collection pieces, such as intricately carved furniture, Buddhist statues, and embroidered court garments, arranged to create a dialogue between individual objects and the overall space. The model of a Chinese building, restored in 2023, serves as a central curatorial and visual highlight, symbolizing the unrealized vision of establishing an Asian museum.
The exhibition also incorporates modern technologies, such as 3D modeling, enabling exploration and reinterpretation of museum collections.
